Classroom Expectations - Plate System
All Classes at TPS implement the plate system to support classroom management.
1. Each class will have a designated "time out" class as determined by the school executive team.
2. The plate system will operate in the following ways
- students will be explicitly taught classroom behaviour expectations and consequences
- all students will begin the day on the green plate (ready to learn)
- A student's peg will be moved if they do not meet school expectations (yellow, orange, red)
- Once a peg has been moved to yellow or orange a teacher may move a student's pet to a higher plate based on positive behaviour
- Gold plate = excellent behaviour, Blue plate = role model behaviour, Green plate = ready to learn, Yellow plate = reminder to get behaviour back on track. orange plate = in class time out to get behaviour back on track, Red plate = time out in designated classroom and Sentral notification letter sent home
- The student is to remain in "time out" room until:
- Class work and "reflection" sheet are complete
- Student has had restorative chat with "time out" teacher
- Student is calm and ready to return to class or playground
- When student returns to class, peg is to be returned to yellow plate.
- All student pegs to return to green plate at the beginning of each session.
- Second "time out" in a day = AP room/Planning Room
- Third "time out" in a week = refer to AP or Principal for phone call home/meeting - Planning Room referral and possible warning of suspension.
- Red cards issued to each class for executive support (office).
- If a student achieves gold plate, they will receive a happy note.
The Principal reserves the right to make adjustments to this system as required, dependent on individual student need.
