PONDEE KIDS
At Toronto Public School we have a team who are enthusiastic about supporting the learning opportunities for all Aboriginal students. We have contact people at the school who are always willing to answer questions or concerns. These people are Jenny Ryan and Teresa Doyle.
Toronto Public School supports Indigenous students and parents in a number of ways.
1. Personalised Learning Plans
Classroom teachers will work with you and your child to write Personalised Learning Plans (PLP'S), assisting your child to achieve their personal best.
2. Cultural Activities
Toronto Public School participates in cultural activities such as NAIDOC week. We welcome parents and family members who are keen to share their skills with the students.
If you can donate your time to help in any way in any of the following areas please let the school know
* Having a yarn with the children - dreamtime stories, local area knowledge, local history, talks about artefacts.
* Traditional dance or music
* Art
* Providing an extra pair of hands at school during Pondee time
3. Pondee Kids
Pondee is the Awabakal word for the place on Lake Macquarie where Toronto is situated. This is why our students thought it would be a great name to identify who they are. Pondee kids meet once a fortnight, giving them a chance to get to know other Indigenous students in our school and participate in cultural activities.
Please talk to your children about Pondee Kids and encourage them to come along!
